The use of capital letters allows to describe a comprehensive and paradigmatic concept: Mankind, Nature, Civilization, Modernity. The accounts determined by these abstract entities are generally of domineering positions, those of Empires, Nations, Museums, Sciences. Against or with History, other points of view allow the emergence of stories without capital letters: close to, on the side of diversity, of sensitiveness. These stories describe no system nor program, they don’t mourn their past or future absence.
This articulation between History and histories, the global account and the sideline stories, could help us understand other articulations such as those already experienced by the collective Suspended spaces.
We don’t claim to propose an exhaustive review of the periods and issues related to modernity, but it seems to us essential to revisit certain ongoing questions, un reflected, abandoned, overshadowed, and that could partly explain the current state of the intellectual and artistic debates, on the side of postcolonial studies, spatial turn, visual anthropology or connected history.
As we have been led metaphorically, but also geopolitically to meet spaces, situations and issues that cross and travel through countries apparently far from each other, but who have maintained or maintain intense relations, we propose to make this Portuguese stage a moment of connection between stories and territories, Brazil, Portugal and the Portuguese African ex-colonies.
